What I'm Saying...

December 25, 2006

Merry Christmas

Yeay!
It is Winter Break and The Christmas Story just started again for the - well - billionth time.
We had a great day so far. Woke up late, had coffee, took the pups to the park to play with other doggies and now we are waiting for the turkey to cook.
It is 70 degrees and sunny.
I love vacation.

I am a working gal again

It is official. I am back at work. I have been ‘back’ for two weeks, but today the rest of ‘the office’ returned. As far as I could tell it was business as usual.
One big difference is that I cannot check my mail regularly.
Another big difference, my bosses are not nightmares from living hell.
I really need to put my nose to the grindstone now and get to learning all sorts of new material.
It feels good to make a difference.

my last saturday

For those of you in outter space who have been reading along (no one on Earth reads my blog) this is my last Saturday night of *vacation.*

Mister and I have had an amazing summer.

Before the AF, we had never spent a day apart. Eight years ago, our lives changed. He joined the AF, and we left our lovely home in AZ for the unkknown. We ended up in Boston, and we loved it there. We have great friends there, we were lucky enough to own real estate, we both gained education and job experience, but the one thing that matters most to us is the happiness and committment we have to each other.

After a rapid session of emotional growing up, we realized that although our life in Boston was amazing in many, many ways, and we were making great money, we were missing out on time with each other. We left. We moved across country. We left our careers. We left our family base. We decided that all things considered, the important thing for us to us is to have TIME. Time to relax. Time to know each other and ourselves.

Our LONG adult vacation is ending, and we are happy. That constant crick in my neck is gone. I can sleep on Sunday night. I don’t worry about silly shit. Is this normal?? I can take a moment when Mister does something that grates on me to realize it really doesn’t matter that much. My dogs are now well behaved. I practice my yoga. I am at ease for the first time in my adult life.

Tuesday we start work again. Do you think I will be able to maintain my serentiy, or do I simply need to unplug from the grid completely?

I hope to start blogging more regularly, but who knows. I will certianly be glad when the ET’s get here and know me already.

Off to plan our house warming party. I don’t think I ever planned a party with a smaller guest list. EVER! I am still making punch - even if I drink most of it myself!

Hurray to our new life!

Hurray!!!

On the mend . . .

After nearly two years in a job that I thought would kill me, I am finally free. I use the word free, becasue I truely feel as though I was being held captive. Each day I had to report to my cell and wonder if someone was going to come in and toss me a biscuit or inflict cruel mental abuse, harrassment, and intimatation.

I am free.

I really don’t feel free, yet. Maybe this weekend will help me. When I realize that I don’t need to be sick with worry about goiong back, maybe then I can start to lick my wounds.

“i’m watching you”

Those of you who read Mister’s blog know that we have a number of huge life changes in the works - to be sure you are all clear, we did NOT decide to breed, but the changes are big.

One of the tasks we had to check of the list of “To-Do’s” is getting finger print cards. Really makes it sound mysterious, huh? We went to get this done last week. We had to go to the PO-lice station and have a really nice dective rub our fingers in ick. He told me it was important not to help at all, so I was really good at getting finger printed.

The followong day, we arrived home from work and in the mail we received two very important documents that are directly related to the “Big Change.” We broke open the champange and called the Fam to tell ‘em the news. Then we decided to go out for Mexican (ironic to those of you who don’t find this post to by mysterious) at a new resturant in the City of Presidents.

We got there and the place was HOPPING! It was great to see it really rocking in there. We take our seats and I took a look around and who do I see? Our Nice dective! Because I have no couth, I immediately swing my head to Mister say “there is our finger print dective” while simultanously pointing in his direction. Like all good dectives should, he had already spotted and recognized us. So, when I swung my head back around, he made the “Meet the Parents” I am watching you move with the fingers to the eyes and point. It was so funny and just another good sign that Mister and I have made the right life decision.

Save the trees!

I am, deep down inside, a bit of a tree hugger.

Today, I arrived to my cage in the pasture to a change in scenery. I walked into my office and turned on the lights, but the lighting angles were different. I looked up, but there was nothing wrong there.

I am slow in the morning, so it took me a minute or two to compute the fact that my office is not darker, it is brighter.

I still couldn’t place it, and then I sat down at my computer and noticed a glare on my monitor. Finally, it occured to me that something may have happened outside my window.

Turning around to face the freedom on the other side of the glass, it seemed that the scenery had changed. Upon closer inspection, I realized that THREE trees outside my suite of cages had been removed over the weekend.

This is not the first time that this has happened to me. When I lived in the perch above the Green Line, the same thing happened. It was a far worse episode there though. The tree that were removed from outside my perch were VERY large and old, and it was so sad. The rest of my birds in the perch suite and I put up signs to “Save the Trees.” Super corny, but fun. It took one day and about six men to remove probably one hundred years of nature’s work. These trees had probably endured the entire industrial revolution only to be removed to widen some sewers for a new dorm.

Nice, real nice.

I have to admit that I have had trees removed from my yard, but the tree I had removed was dead, and the ants were eating it from the inside out. It was sad to do, but it is hard to let a tree naturally decompose in the city. I would have loved to allow it to turn into rich mulch, but alas, that was not possible.

Why did They take the trees away from outside my cage? Was it to make me hate my work day more than I already do?

2″x 3″ sticky

today, as i think about my job on the weekend, i came to realize that in any given day i can only do as much as i can keep track of on a 2″x 3″ sticky note.
i think it might be the only way to stay sane.
i need a new job, badly.

We are having an open house today!!

Our house is on the market.

As you may know if you read Mister’s blog, we had a great house in our sights, but we backed away from it quite dissappointed.

We are still looking for a place, and today is our first open house!! Pretty exciting, huh?

Lemme tell you about today’s weather. I think this quote from Yahoo! weather sums it up:

THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. TRAVEL IS NOT
RECOMMENDED UNTIL LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL BE SERIOUSLY IMPACTED
BY THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS…POOR VISIBILITY AND SNOW COVERED
ROADS. FOR YOUR SAFETY…REMAIN INDOORS.

Do you think we should even bother cleaning the house? We certianly don’t plan to leave . . . after all, it is a dangerous situation.

Should we take this as a sign that we need to stay put?

“We do not accept credit”

Please let me preface:

Mister and I have had debit cards since 1994. We very well may have been the first people we know who moved from the ATM to the debit card. It was perfect for us. We were poor, but we liked to keep all of our money in the bank, and our debit card allowed us to know exactally where our meager funds went.

In the past months, I have had to make a number of visits to various doctor offices.

Yesterday, I was at a clininc at Quincy Medical Center, and I had to pay my co-pay. As usual, I pulled out my debit card. The woman, who obviously hates her job anyway, looked at me and said “Oh, we don’t take credit cards.”

Well . . . this is quite irritating to me. Usually, at this point I do one of two things - tell the cashier to cancel my purchase and I will go elsewhere or - int he case of the doctors office where I have no choice - I just let this anger fester. Yesterday, I turned a new leaf: I decided to resond to her and say “well that is too bad, I don’t carry filthy cash.”

Of course this didn’t matter to her - she said she would bill me.

Now, I am not a business person, and I am definately not a billing person, but don’t you think it would be cheaper for the HOSPITAL to get a creidt card machine rather than to maintain a billing department to collect $10 co-pays?

I often wonder if I am a lunitic living in a sane world or a sane person living with loons . . .

Peacock or Puppy

Recently, we have been considering a new puppy.

Well, I also have spent my life in love in peacocks. A secret I have never really shared. It started when I was a wee bit. My mom used to take me to a totally ghetto zoo- which I would never go to now because the animals were not kept well - but I LOVED IT!!

One of my favorite “exhibits” was the peacock exhibit. I used to run to it as fast as possible to see them, often dropping the graham cracker I had brought to feed them.

Intrestingly - I HATE BIRDS, but, to this day, at 32-years-old, I love f-ing peacocks.

I recently finished about 6 hours of tattoos on my leg,
Finished
and I think my next work of art will be a pair of peacocks on my shoulder blade.

Last year, Mister and I went to Bermuda, and at the aquarium, I spent like a hour chasing the peacock around the park to get a picture.

Bermuda 2004_79
What is with me and this fancy bird?

I recently bought a scroll with a male & female for the bedroom since I have learned that my lovely birds are devoted to their lover for life.

So, puppy or peacock? I asked Mister to see if we could adopt a peacock. The verdict seems to be “no” I guess I can only have one or the other, and if I go for the cuddle factor, the puppy wins.

Did I decide right?

The Grossest sang-witch EVER!

So, I have had a very family heavy week this week.

Tonight, I was on the phone with my bro for a quite a while, and Mister decided he was hungry for dinner,

Since I was not hungry for dinner, he went to the kitchen and made himself a sang-witch.

He made a peanut butter and jap-a-leeno chedda’ cheese on marbled rye with pumpernickel.

That must be the very last choice in a sandwitch that I would EVER make.

gross.

Oprah saved my dish

So, we lost service on our pvr dish last monday. We made an appointment to get it fixed on Saturday, but the f**ers stiffed us. Antoher story for another day . . .

We have been snowed into the house since Friday, and doing the best we can to watch movie we have on hand and surf the internet to pass the time.

Today, we were watching a dvd - Saved -I highly reccomend! - and the pvr receiver clicked on. I was about 4, and I joked the the darn thing turned on just for Oprah.

Well, it turns out that it did. We have the TV back. Of course, I am afraid to change the channel of turn it off since it probably won’t turn back on.

How funny - Oprah saved my TV!!! Praise Oprah!!

Blizzard of 2005!

So, I grew up in Buffalo, NY, which to most people automatically means that I “love” the snow or at least “know how to handle it.” This always bugs me, and I reply, “yeah, that is why I moved to the desert as soon as I could.”

Well, in an ironic twist in our lives, Mister and I were sent away from the desert and back to the North East. So, here we sit today, in the blizzard of 2005. Turns out, I do know how to handle it. It is not like this snow was some kind of surprise. (72 inches for Christmas 2002 in Buffalo was a surprise - and I don’t like surprises) On Friday after work, in true Buffalo-style, Mister and I went to the grocery to get “rations.”

We now sit here on Sunday morning drinking coffee, and getting ready to make a full brunch for two, mimosas included. That is what you do when it shits-down snow. Stay in until the streets clear, or at least the snow stops - which is has not - and wait. We have food, booze and entertainment - I feel some yatzee with house rules coming on - we play with special 6s.

Anyhoo, my Mother called this morning to be sure we were okay. After all, the National Guard has been called into evacuate the North and South Shores (we only live about 2 miles from the ocean.) We are totally fine thanks to my snow-emergency-up-bringing. I wanted to go online to check out the Hull, MA webcam to see the breaking tide, and it is covered in snow! Funny.

As I sit in wait, I hope you are all having as wonderful a Sunday morning as we are. This gives us the excuse to be lazy! I wonder if the paperboy delivered the Sunday paper . . .

So, . . . here I am

It has been a long time that I have been away.

When I last spoke, I lived in a 120 ft perch 8 hours a day, five days per week.
I have left my perch for a stable in the country. I am currently confined to a much larger space - maybe 150 or so, and I look out into, well, the woods. I only relocated about 5 miles, but it really is a world away. Instead of watching peeps cross Comm Ave and jump out of the way of the B-line, I get chased into the building by giant wild turkeys and stalked by fat ass squirels outside my window.

Life is good, but my new digs bring new responsibilty, and very little time for idle musings.

I will try to improve . . .
